History of One North

The first plan to build One-North was written in the National Technology Plan in 1991. Tony Tan Keng Yam, who was the Deputy Prime Minister at the time, started the project on December 4, 2001. The main goal was to grow Singapore's info-communications technology, biomedical sciences, physical sciences, media, and engineering sectors in order to create a knowledge-based economy and a hub for talent from all over the world.
Since September 15, 1998, the Singaporean government has been planning to build a science hub in Buona Vista. This happened after TechVenture 98 was announced by Deputy Prime Minister Tony Tan. In April 1999, the government put the science hub at the center of its plan for growth.
The Deputy Prime Minister said that the Jurong Town Corporation, or JTC, would be in charge of building the science hub with help from private developers. Zaha Hadid Architects, which is based in London, was chosen as the masterplan consultant for the project.

In June 2021, the Government Land Sales (GLS) program put both of the Slim Barracks plots up for sale. The bigger of the two plots, Parcel A, will have 265 new homes when it is done. EL Development Pte Ltd. put in the highest bid of $320,1 million. The highest bid price is based on a land rate of $1,246 per square foot per plot ratio (psf ppr).
The top bid for Parcel B, the smaller piece of land that will have up to 140 new homes, was $162,4 million, which is equal to a land rate of $1,210 psf ppr. Gao Xiuhua, who is one of the owners of Kingsford Development, bid the most. Both developments will have a small commercial podium that will be 800 square meters or 400 square meters in size.
